Fasten your seatbelts! The second weekend of November will bring you a fitness extravaganza. Set in New Orleans at the Morial Convention Center, the first annual GNC/Physical Magazine Show of Strength and World Expo will dazzle you with nonstop action and fun.

It’s called the Show of Strength for good reason: Strength will be on display in every way possible, from today’s top-ranked professional bodybuilders and female fitness competitors to the world’s best wrestlers, power-lifters, strongmen and arm wrestlers. You’ll view many of these thrilling contests on the expo stage. Meanwhile, on the expo floor, strength and fitness will be represented by more than 300 supplement and nutrition companies, sporting-equipment manufacturers and fitness clothing retailers.

There will also be live entertainment, demonstrations of special talents, exhibitions of skill and agility, and all the nutritional samples you can carry!

If you enjoy the Arnold Classic - the hugely popular fitness weekend that’s held each March in Columbus, Ohio - then you’ll also love the Show of Strength. In fact, Scott Johnson, chairman/CEO of Basic Media Group, who came up with the idea for the show, patterned it after The Arnold. “Both shows prominently feature bodybuilding, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg,” says Johnson.

Indeed, the Show of Strength will thrill you from morning to night for three straight days. Its centerpiece is the Pro Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, with more than $320,000 in total prize money. Top-ranked pros - including big names like male bodybuilding champion Ronnie Coleman, top female bodybuilder Vickie Gates and fitness champ Jenny Worth - will complete.

Equally attention-getting will be the first-ever Kurt Angle Classic. Poised to be the biggest, most exciting wrestling event in the sport’s history, it follows a “USA vs. the World” format. Former Olympic gold medalist and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Angle helped design this wrestling tournament, in which internationally recognized Olympic and world champion athletes will compete in three Olympic styles of wrestling: men’s freestyle, men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle. In addition, the U.S. military champion all-stars will battle a foreign military champion team. Raising the entertainment value even more will be the music, up-close interviews and special effects that accompany each match.

Another audience favorite will be the MET-Rx World Powerlifting Series semifinals, where the most powerful men and women on the planet compete in the squat, deadlift and bench press. Meanwhile, the strongman competition makes for one of the most fascinating sporting events on the schedule, with the world’s strongest athletes trying to outdo each other in grueling tests of the strength. Lastly, the arm-wrestling challenge will deliver intense drama that unfolds during many bouts, some lasting minutes and others seconds. A big bonus is that all three of these events will be on the expo stage - free to all expo visitors!
